Job description:
Would you like to contribute to cutting-edge research topics in quantum technologies through your work? Then the Quantum Systems research department at Leibniz IPHT is the right place for you! We are researching novel quantum sensor technology based on optically pumped and superconducting magnetometers, e.g. for measuring biomagnetic signals from the heart or brain, for the search for dark matter or for the exploration of deposits of high-tech metals. In this field of research, we are world leaders in the realization of prototypes and their demonstration in application. Your area of responsibility is the programming of FPGAs, the verification of designs and functional tests in hardware as well as the realization of suitable sensor, user and data interfaces for the systems. We use the knowledge gained during the realization of the complete systems to continuously improve the next generation of measurement setups and demonstrators. We work with you at the limits of what is physically and technically feasible.
The research department is integrated into leading research networks throughout Germany and the world. In our state-of-the-art laboratories, you will work together with scientists from all over the world at the highest level and support us in sustainably transferring the new quantum technologies into real use. You will work with us at the interface of physics, mathematics, materials science and engineering.

Your field of activity:

  • Design and/or commissioning of programmable control and readout electronics as well as digital data acquisition devices for scientific tasks in the field of quantum magnetometry,
  • Hardware-related programming of SoC-FPGA platforms and their system and user interfaces (e.g. Xilinx Zynq-7000),
  • Development of FPGA functionalities and block-based FPGA libraries for the following tasks, among others:
  • Verification and optimization of designs in simulation and functional tests in hardware,
  • Debugging during test measurements in cooperation with hardware and sensor development experts,
  • Conception and realization of suitable software user interfaces (GUI) and data interfaces.
  • Completed university studies (diploma or master's degree) in electrical engineering, technical informatics or related disciplines.

Your knowledge and skills:

  • Very good knowledge of FPGA and HDL (VHDL and/or Verilog),
  • Very good knowledge of the programming languages C, C++ or another higher programming language,
  • Experience in programming embedded systems or real-time systems is an advantage,
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering desirable,
  • Independent, analytical, creative and goal-oriented way of working, as well as strong ability to work in a team,
