The on-the-job training / dual studies are offered by educational institutions (specialised academies and school or universities) and include practical training.

Our After School Programme (Hort) provides students with opportunities beyond the regular school day. Educators in Hort focus on children’s social, behavioural, physical and emotional learning during open Hort hours, in the classrooms, and during school holidays. We place value on the interaction between the child and the adult within our learning environments to promote independence, confidence and initiative-taking in children. The conceptual background of our work is informed by the International Primary Curriculum and Saxony’s Learning Curriculum (Bildungsplan) for children.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Educate and care for children in Grades 1 - 5 during core Hort times and breaks
  • Collaborate with Hort team members and teachers of the Primary School to create a safe and stimulating learning environment in which the students can discover and develop their intellectual, physical, social and creative potential
  • Promote the motto of our school “learning to be a citizen of the world”, so that students develop the skills to think and act with openness to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals, cultures and communities, and thus develop an international understanding
  • Collaborate with the Hort team to plan, co-lead and evaluate projects and programmes
  • Engage with the Hort team in conceptual work leading into a larger Hort concept
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, providing assistance and support for students during class
  • Provide authentic, formative feedback through which your students can improve their skills, knowledge and understanding plus develop their higher order thinking
  • Observe and document the learning taking place in both structured and non-structured learning environments
  • Work as a contributing member of the Hort and Primary School to ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place and delivered uniformly

Your profile

  • Fulfillment of the admission requirements of the educational institutions (e.g. A-levels, already existing vocational training as a State-approved Social Assistant (staatlich anerkannte/r Sozialassistent/in), or a comparable education / experience)
  • Fluency in written and verbal English or German, with basic understanding in the other
  • Sense of responsibility, physical and mental resilience, flexibility and a friendly demeanours
  • Committed to our students and their learning, well-being and safety
  • A team player who is flexible, open to change, solution-oriented, all with a good sense of humour
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function
  • Good communication, reflection, feedback, empathy and intercultural skills
  • The ability to challenge situations, to resolve conflicts and to change things for the better
  • first practical experience in a kindergarten or educational institution is an advantage
